GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (February 23, 2020) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Lacrosse wound up on the wrong end of a 22-11 final score in a road game against No. 17 Colorado Mesa University.
Skylar Weathers (So., Ogden, Utah) matched a career-high with four goals. Weathers now has five goals on the young season.
Connor Owen (Fr., Keller, Texas) netted his first hat trick with the Pack. Owen added an assist for a four-point game.
Tommy Vassallo (Sr., Sarasota, Fla.) had three points. Vassallo scored a goal and added two assists.
Freshman
Logan Wells (Centennial, Colo.) potted the first two goals of his Pack career. Fellow freshman
Trenton Steele (Littleton, Colo.) also scored for the ThunderWolves.
Tavian Watson (Sr., Aurora, Colo.) led the Pack defensively with five ground balls. Watson also forced one of the Pack's five caused turnovers.
The Mavericks scored the game's first five goals. However, the Pack answered with four of the next five tallies to close within one at 5-4. Colorado Mesa came up with one more goal before the end of the first to take a 6-4 lead after one.
For the second consecutive game, the Pack was held scoreless in the second quarter. This allowed the Mavericks to take an 11-4 lead at halftime.
Colorado Mesa totaled the first goal of the second half. Weathers answered to end the Mavericks run at seven goals. However, they began another six-goal run shortly after. This run led the Mavericks to a 22-11 victory.
The Pack will host its home opener Sunday March 8 when they welcome Davenport University to Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium. CSU-Pueblo's first home game of the season starts at 12 p.m.
