ThunderWolves Travel East to Tangle with Tigers

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 20, 2020) –Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball will compete on the road for the first time in 2020 when they visit Fort Hays State University for a four-game series starting Friday at 2 p.m. The ThunderWolves and Tigers will play in a doubleheader Saturday starting at 11 a.m. and wrap up their series Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Pack enters the weekend at 3-3 overall. CSU-Pueblo went 2-1 in its first weekend against Emporia State University and followed it up with a 1-2 record last weekend in a pod against Montana State University Billings and the University of Sioux Falls.

Cole Martin (Jr., Ridgecrest, Calif.) will look to continue the momentum he built off of his last start. Martin threw seven shutout innings allowing just one hit and two walks. The righty did not allow a single Sioux Falls player to advance past first base safely. He struck out seven in this breakout performance.

Martin has lowered his ERA to 2.00, fifth-best in the Rocky Mountain Athletic  Conference. Opponents are hitting just .103 against him this season, second-best in the RMAC.

Aidan Welch (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) leads the Pack with a .400 batting average and a .500 OBP. Welch has also scored three runs.

Easton Adler (Sr., Mead, Colo.) has totaled five RBIs and scored five runs. Adler owns a .353 average so far this year. He has two steals in two attempts this season.

Billy Reyes (R-Sr., Yucaipa, Calif.) has belted the Pack's lone home run of the season. Reyes has a .304 average with five runs scored.

DeVaughn Gales (Jr., Magnolia, Ark.) went 6-for-9 in his first weekend with the Pack. Gales picked up three RBIs and scored three runs in two starts for the Pack.

The Pack currently ranks 13th in D-II with 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings. In total 13 ThunderWolves average a strikeout per inning or better.

Seven Pack relievers have yet to allow an earned run. JC Hatch (Sr., Corona, Calif.) has made a team-high four appearances and struck out four. Through 5.1 innings pitched out of the bullpen Johnathan Ramirez (R-Jr.,  Henderson, Colo.) also has a 0.00 ERA.

Blake Slaymaker (Jr., Johnstown, Colo.) completed the Pack's shutout of the Cougars with two scoreless innings of work. Seniors Rocco Arguto (Pueblo, Colo.) and Gary Fayard (Corona, Calif.), and junior Joe Milano (Boulder, Colo.) all have made spotless relief appearances.

Closer Dane Kapande (R-Jr., Evergreen, Colo.) has also not surrendered an earned run. Kapande has the team's lone save and has fanned four batters in two innings.

Scouting Fort Hays State:
The Tigers enter the weekend 9-3 with all of their games coming against RMAC competition. They swept New Mexico Highlands University in four games last weekend.

Garrett Stephens leads the Tigers offense with five home runs and 14 RBIs. Stephens is hitting .535 so far this season.

Drake Angeron is a threat on the base path with 12 stolen bases already this season. Jacob Ensz is 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 13.2 innings so far this season.
