Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

ThunderWolves lose to Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 1, 2020) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team suffered an 86-72 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road loss at University of Colorado Colorado Springs Saturday.

For the third game in a row the ThunderWolves (9-12, 7-8 RMAC) ran into a hot shooting team and couldn't match the output. The Mountain Lions (13-7, 9-6 RMAC) shot 58.6 percent from the field, while the Pack were held to 40.7 percent. CSU-Pueblo did find success from the free throw line and went 18-for-22 (81.8%).

Junior Bryce Sanchious (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was a bright spot for the Pack, as he totaled 25 points, which included a 12-for-13 (92.3%) effort from the free throw line. He also had nine rebounds with four of them coming on the offensive glass.

Sophomore Tyson Gilbert (G, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) chipped in 16 points on 7-of-9 (77.8%) shooting from the field. He had four rebounds and a steal. Senior Jason Anderson (C, Colorado Springs, Colo.) added 10 points.

There were three ties and four lead changes, all in the first 15 minutes of play. Five minutes in UCCS was leading by six at 14-8, but the Pack rallied and posted an 11-2 run during the next five minutes to open up a 19-16 advantage. Four different players scored during the run and senior Donovan Oldham (F, Colorado Springs, Colo.) had seven points during the stretch.

After trading baskets, Sanchious put the road team ahead 27-24 with 5:40 to play in the opening half, but unfortunately, it would be the last lead the Pack would own. The Mountain Lions mounted a 7-0 run that handed them the lead, an advantage they would keep into the locker room at 39-35.

A minute into the second half the ThunderWolves had an old fashioned three-point play to get them within three at 41-38, but it would be the closest they would get the rest of the way.

A 7-0 run handed UCCS its first double-digit lead of the game and the advantage never slipped below eight for the rest of the contest.

The ThunderWolves travel to Black Hills State University and South Dakota Mines and Technology, Feb. 7-8.
