GOLDEN Colo. (Jan. 31, 2020) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team lost 89-61 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road contest at Colorado School of Mines Friday.
The Orediggers (14-7, 10-4 RMAC) jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back, as the home team shot 50.7 percent from the field and 51.9 percent from 3-point land. The ThunderWolves (9-11, 7-7 RMAC) were held to just 37.9 percent from the field, after shooting 53.5 percent all of last weekend. Mines hit 14 3-pointers, while the Pack had just six buckets from long range and only one of those came in the first half.
Guard
David Simental (R-So., Pueblo West, Colo.) scored 17 points and shot 6-of-12 (50%) from the field.
Senior
Jason Anderson (C, Colorado Springs, Colo.) had nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Sophomore
Tyson Gilbert (G, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had 10 points off the bench. Guard
Brandon McGhee (Sr., Oakland, Calif.) had seven assists.
Mines worked up an 8-0 lead 3:15 into the game before the Pack found back-to-back buckets from Anderson. The Orediggers then went on a 9-0 run to break open a 17-4 lead just five minutes into the contest. The home team continued to push and halfway through the frame it was 27-8. The Pack deficit went as high as 27 before finishing at 25, 48-23.
At half, CSU-Pueblo was shooting just 28.1 percent from the field, while the Orediggers were at 55.6 percent.
The Pack only lost the second half by three, 41-38, but the hole was too large to dig out of, as the Pack lost, 89-61.
The ThunderWolves look to bounce back from two straight losses at University of Colorado Colorado Springs Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
