PUEBLO, Colo. (January 25, 2020) – Colorado State University-Pueblo upset Black Hills State University Saturday at Massari Arena as a hot-shooting effort led the Pack to a 69-63 win.
The ThunderWolves totaled 13 blocks. CSU-Pueblo also matched its best output of the season from beyond the arc as the Pack shot 41.7 (5-of-12) percent from downtown. CSU-Pueblo made 43.8 percent from the field.
JaNaiya Davis (So., Hewitt, Texas) sparked the Pack's offensive attack with 25 points on 7-of-15 shooting form the field. Davis also sank 4-of-6 from downtown and 7-of-8 from the stripe. She completed the double-double with 10 rebounds. Davis dished out six assists and totaled three blocks.
Sydni Williams (Jr., Little Rock, Ark.) totaled 14 points including an 8-of-10 showing at the free-throw line. Williams hauled in nine rebounds.
Kansas Watts (So., Houston, Texas) scored 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Watts swatted a career-high four blocks.
The Pack was brilliant in the first quarter. The ThunderWolves made 7-of-10 from the field including 3-of-4 from downtown. Davis made two 3-pointers and had four assists in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Pack continued its hot streak, They used an 11-2 run to make it 36-22. This 14-point lead was the Pack's biggest lead at home this season. They held a 40-31 advantage at the break.
The Yellow Jackets rallied in the third quarter. They trimmed the Pack's lead to 52-47 after three. The Yellow Jackets pulled within one minutes into the fourth quarter as part of a 7-0 run.
With three minutes left in the game, the Pack held three-point lead. Black Hills State had a chance to tie the game, but
Harmony Pettis (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) came up with a steal. Williams then finished off a traditional 3-point play to put the Pack back up six. The Pack would hold on to that six-point lead as they closed out their biggest win of the season 69-63.
The ThunderWolves improved to 5-13. They are 4-9 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Yellow Jackets dropped to 11-7 (8-5 RMAC).
After a 2-2 homestand, the Pack will hit the road for four games. The Pack's road trip starts Friday Jan. 31 in Golden, Colo. against Colorado School of Mines.
