Pack looks to build home win streak vs. South Dakota Schools

PUEBLO, Colo. (January 23, 2020) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball will try to sustain its momentum when the Pack hosts South Dakota School of Mines & Technology Friday and Black Hills State University Saturday. Both games start at 5:30 p.m. at Massari Arena.

Promotions:
Friday night's game against the Hardrockers will serve as Military Appreciation Night at Massari Arena. All active duty military personnel and veterans will receive free tickets for themselves and up to four guests.

Saturday's game will be Suits vs. Sneakers night at Massari Arena as the Pack partners with Coaches vs. Cancer to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society.  Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Since 1993, coaches have raised over $100 million for the American Cancer Society.

Starting 5 – The Top 5 CSU-Pueblo storylines
1. CSU-Pueblo comes into the weekend riding a wave of momentum. The Pack rallied from a 15-point deficit to defeat Chadron State College 78-67. This marked the second time this season that the Pack erased a 15-point deficit in the second half. JaNaiya Davis (So., Hewitt, Texas) scored 24 of her 30 points in the second half including 17 in the fourth quarter.

2. The ThunderWolves swept the RMAC Player of the Week awards. Davis claimed RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Sydni Williams (Jr., Little Rock, Ark.) earned RMAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades. This was Davis' second RMAC Player of the Week award this season. Williams earned RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. It was her third RMAC Player of the Week honor this year.

3. Davis averaged 27.5 points per game last week. She made 64.7 percent from the field and eight 3-pointers. Davis ranks ninth in D-II with 37.6 minutes per game. She also leads the RMAC with 4.6 assists per game. Davis ranks in the top 10 in the RMAC in every category except for 3-point and free-throw percentage.

4. Williams swatted six blocks last week, including a career-best five swats vs. Chadron State. The forward also hauled in a career-high 15 rebounds against Metro State University Denver. Williams ranks second in the RMAC with 1.6 blocks per game. Her 8.1 rebounds per game lead the Pack and ranks fourth in the RMAC.

5. The Pack ranks 16th in D-II in blocks per game. They swat an RMAC-best 4.9 shots per game. The ThunderWolves have led the RMAC in blocks every year since 2015-16.

Scouting South Dakota Mines:
2019-20 Record: 6-9  (4-7 RMAC)
Series History: The Pack leads the all-time series 7-1. The ThunderWolves won both meetings last year, holding the Hardrockers to 50 points or less in both games. They have  won six straight meetings with SD Mines.
Player to Watch: Ryan Weiss leads the Hardrockers with 15.8 points per game. Weiss makes 45.7 percent from downtown and 86.0 percent from the line.

Scouting Black Hills State
2019-20 Record: 10-6 (7-4 RMAC)
Series History: The ThunderWolves lead the all-time series against the Eagles 14-4. The Pack beat the Yellow Jackets by 10 points in both meetings last season. CSU-Pueblo has won the last seven meetings.
Player to Watch: The Yellow Jackets have two student-athletes averaging over 14 points per game. Racquel Wientjes averages 16.4 points per game and makes 87.0 percent at the free throw line. Morgan Ham averaged 14.5 points per game.
