PUEBLO, Colo. (September 27, 2019) – Despite dominating the first set, Colorado State University-Pueblo Volleyball took a 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 20-25, 15-25) road loss at the hands of Black Hills State University.
The Pack held the Yellow Jackets to a .024. hitting percentage in the first set, while hitting .219. Over the final three sets, the Yellow Jackets outhit the Pack .271 to .161.
Grace Hern (So., Omaha, Neb.) dished out 19 assists and came up with 15 digs. These totals gave Hern her fifth double-double of the season. Hern's 15 digs stand as a season-high.
Page Heller (Sr., Vancouver, Wash.) led the Pack with 19 digs.
Kyle Meltzer (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) contributed 14 digs.
Jazzy Espinoza (So., Cheyenne, Wyo.) swatted six Yellow Jacket attacks. Espinoza finished with one solo block and five block assists.
With the first set tied at 12, the Pack went on an 11-0 run that helped them put away the Yellow Jackets 25-14. Black Hills began the second and third sets on a run and never relinquished the lead. In the fourth set, they used a 5-0 run to take a 12-7 lead that they kept building on as they picked up the four set win.
CSU-Pueblo dropped to 3-8 on the season with a 1-2 mark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Black Hills State improved to 4-7 (2-1 RMAC). The ThunderWolves will wrap up their road trip Saturday when they face South Dakota School of Mines & Technology at 1 p.m.
