ThunderWolves notch 2-1 win over MSU Denver

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 22, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team picked up its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win of the season, defeating MSU Denver 2-1, Sunday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

Senior forward Justine Martinez (Pueblo, Colo.) converted on both scores, less than two minutes apart for the ThunderWolves. In the 22', Litzy Serna (Jr., West Jordan, UT) drove the ball up the right side of the field, drawing the Roadrunner defense to her which freed up Martinez who hit a one-timer that sailed high above the MSUD goalkeeper.

In the 23', the Pack offense found possession and took the ball across midfield led by Madison Jepperson (Jr., Cottonwood Heights, UT) who fed the ball to the right side of the box ahead to Martinez and she booted the ball high and under the crossbar for the 2-nil lead.

At halftime, CSU-Pueblo outshot MSUD 3-2, while the Roadrunners earned three corner kicks to the Pack's one.

After the break, the visitors upped the tempo and fired three quick shots that went high and out of play.

The Pack's first shot in the second period came by Serna, who finished the match with a team-high four shots and three on goal.

Cara Siegel (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) ended with three shots and one on frame.

MSU Denver scored their goal in the 62' on a penalty kick, taken by Jordan Lewis.

The Pack defense held strong in holding the Roadrunners in check in the final fifteen minutes of play.

Pack goalkeeper Rylie Martin (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) made seven saves and faced 15 shots from MSUD.

CSU-Pueblo (2-4-0, 1-1-0 RMAC) will hit the road and continue RMAC play Friday at Colorado School of Mines. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Stermole Stadium in Golden, Colo.
