PUEBLO, Colo. (September 20, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team allowed two first half goals against No. 2 ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions Friday, and second half Pack goal was not enough as the Mountain Lions defeated CSU-Pueblo 2-1 at Gonzales Stadium.
Madison Jepperson (Jr., Cottonwood Heights, UT) scored in the 65' to bring the ThunderWolves within one score with plenty of time remaining in the match.
The Pack battled for full minutes against the formidable UCCS offense, holding the visiting team scoreless for much of the first half but a penalty kick was awarded to the Mountain Lions in the 34', and UCCS' Shanade Hopcroft connected for the one goal lead.
After the score, the visiting team continued its attack on the Pack defense and would add to their lead with five ticks left in the first half and would take a 2-0 lead into intermission.
In a tale of two halves, CSU-Pueblo offense came together after the break and played the quick first step which led to several good looks at the net.
Jepperson drove the ball along with the midfielders and received a deflected ball and fired it past the UCCS goalkeeper.
In the second half the ThunderWolves outshot the Mountain Lions by a 6-4 clip and both teams earned three corners in the half.
Down by one score and time still on the clock, CSU-Pueblo outran their opponents to the ball and shot by
Cara Siegel (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) hit the post, nearly bringing the crowd to a roar.
Seigel finished the match with two shots. Jepperson led the team with her three shots and two on frame.
The UCCS defense did well in executing the final five minutes of the match, limiting CSU-Pueblo touches for the remainder of the game.
Pack goalkeeper
Rylie Martin (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) made six saves and faced twenty shots by UCCS.
CSU-Pueblo (1-4-0, 0-1-0 RMAC) remains home and will host MSU Denver Sunday at 1 p.m. in another RMAC tilt at Gonzales Stadium.
