PUEBLO, Colo. (September 20, 2019) - Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer secured its first win of the season Friday after notching a 2-1 overtime win against Adams State University at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
The Pack was dominant from the onset and played the first step nearly the entire match against Adams. CSU-Pueblo fired off a season-high 27 shots led by freshman
Vinzent Zingel (Aachen, Germany) who finished with ten shots including two on frame.
Dominik Huetgens (So., Reutlingen, Germany) scored the golden goal three minutes into the overtime period after a deflected shot found Huetgens at the center of the box and he booted the ball low and to the right, inside the post to secure the victory.
The ThunderWolves outplayed the Grizzlies in nearly every facet of the game as they gathered a 27-6 shot advantage and created 12 corner kick opportunities to ASU's two attempts.
Senior
Michael Chism (Littleton, Colo.) tallied two assists, giving his support on both scoring chances from the Pack.
The teams played to a scoreless tie through halftime and was changed at the 51' when ASU came out of intermission and had a burst of energy that allowed for the goal.
The Pack's hard work paid off in the 86' when Zingel received a rebounded shot and fired it right back at the defense and the ball found its way to the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1 with less than five minutes left in regulation.
In overtime, the ThunderWolves gained possession and drove the ball into Grizzlies territory and earned a corner which ultimately set up Zingel and the Pack offense to connect the game winner.
Pack goalkeeper
Tyler Harvey (Sr., Henderson, Nev.) made two saves and faced six shots and three on goal in the match.
CSU-Pueblo (1-4-0, 1-0-0 RMAC) goes on the road and finishes the weekend Sunday at Colorado Mesa. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. in Grand Junction, Colo.
