ALAMOSA, Colo. (April 20, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Lacrosse outlasted Adams State University 16-13 Saturday at the ASU Lacrosse Field.
With their win, the Pack improved to 7-5 overall. The Pack's seventh win set the program record for victories in a season. They beat the previous record of six, set each of the last two seasons.
Weston Bartgis (Sr., El Cajon, Calif.) scored a career-high six goals. This was Bartgis' first career sock trick and doubled his career-high for goals in a game. Bartgis also snagged two ground balls.
Tommy Vassallo (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) potted three goals. Vassallo added an assist. He has six hat tricks this season.
Caleb Cole (Fr., Houston, Texas) fired in two goals. Cole handed out an assist. He collected two ground balls.
Dante Buck (So., Farmington, Minn.) dished out a career-high four assists.
Taylor Davis (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) netted a goal and handed out an assist.
Anthony Ferrie (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) dealt out two assists.
Jacob Muir (Fr., Ogden, Utah) pocketed 13 ground balls. He won 23 of his 32 faceoffs. Muir also scored a goal, his third of the season.
Devin Thrower (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.),
Tavian Watson (Jr., Aurora, Colo.), and
Skylar Weathers (Fr., Ogden, Utah) all scored a goal. Watson also found two ground balls and caused a turnover.
Parker Evans (So., Bentonville, Ark.) snagged five ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Ethan Ferrie (Fr., Littleton, Colo.) picked up the win. Ferrie is now 4-2 on the season.
The Pack raced out to an early lead with two goals in the opening five minutes. The Grizzlies answered with three consecutive goals. CSU-Pueblo rocketed in four consecutive goals to make it 6-3.
Adams State came back with a 4-0 run of its own to reclaim the lead. Bartgis and Muir scored seven consecutive goals to put the Pack in front. Adams State put up two goals in the final minute of the half to carry a 9-8 edge into halftime.
The Pack scored the first five goals of the second half. They held the Grizzlies scoreless in the third quarter. The Pack continued their rush into the fourth quarter as their 7-1 run to start the second half put the game out of reach. Even though the Grizzlies scored three of the last four goals of the game, the Pack pulled away with a 16-13 win.
The Pack now stands 2-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Their 7-5 record clinches the Pack its second .500 season.
The ThunderWolves will return home for senior weekend Friday, April 26 when they host Westminster College at 5 p.m. CSU-Pueblo will celebrate senior day, Sunday April 28 at 12 p.m. at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
