PUEBLO, Colo. (April 26, 2019) – For the first time in over a year, Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Lacrosse could not capitalize on its home field advantage as the Pack fell to Westminster College 17-6 Friday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
Celebrating senior weekend,
Anthony Ferrie (Littleton, Colo.) fired in two goals. Ferrie also chipped in an assist.
Fellow senior,
Weston Bartgis (El Cajon, Calif.) matched Ferrie with three points. Bartgis finished with a goal and an assist.
Tommy Vassallo (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) potted a goal. Vassallo added an assist to total two points on the night.
Freshmen
Caleb Cole (Houston, Texas) and
Skylar Weathers (Ogden, Utah) each netted a goal. Three of the Pack's six goals came on man-up opportunities.
Reigning RMAC Defensive Player of the Week,
Jacob Muir (Fr., Ogden, Utah) won 15-of-his 23 faceoffs. Muir collected seven ground balls.
Devin Thrower (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) secured a season-high six ground balls. Thrower also caused a turnover.
Ferrie scored the game's first goal just 1:13 into the contest. However, the Pack would be held scoreless for the next 44 minutes.
During this span, Westminster scored 14 unanswered goals. The Pack won the fourth quarter 5-3, but it would be too little, too-late as The Griffins grabbed a 17-6 win.
Griffins starter, Sean Edwards stopped 13 of the 14 shots he faced in the first half to help Westminster hold off the Pack's attack. They stopped 80 percent as a team in the Griffins win.
The Pack fell to 7-6 overall. They now stand 2-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Westminster remains unbeaten in RMAC play at 5-0. They are 8-6 overall.
CSU-Pueblo will celebrate Senior Day Sunday when they host Colorado Mesa University at 12 p.m. The Pack will recognize its four seniors before their game with the Mavericks.
