PUEBLO, Colo. (April 13, 2019) - Colorado State University – Pueblo Baseball took two losses Saturday in a doubleheader against Colorado School of Mines at Rawlings Field. The Orediggers prevailed in game one 7-1 and escaped game two with an 11-6 win in extra innings.
Dakota Popham (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) slugged three hits, including two doubles in game two. Popham drove in three runs in the second game. He also walked and scored a run. Popham now finds himself on a 17-game hit streak.
Rion Santamaria (Jr., Yorba Linda, Calif.) swatted his first home run with the Pack. Santamaria''s two-run shot came in game two.
The Orediggers took control of game one with isolated runs in the first, third, fourth, and fifth innings. The Pack scored its only run of the game when
Connor Hughes (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) scored on a pass ball.
Mines put the Pack away with three runs in the seventh.
Josh Dahl (Sr., Glendale, Ariz.) struck out eight batters in 6.1 innings but took the loss. He now stands 4-4 on the season.
Game two began with a three-run top of the first for the Orediggers. The Pack evened it up in the bottom of the first.
A Popham double brought in
Gilbert Sauceda (Sr., Indio, Calif.). Santamaria slugged his two-run home with two outs to tie the game at 3-3.
In the top of the fifth, the Orediggers broke the tie with three runs. CSU-Pueblo answered again in the bottom half.
Popham blasted a two-run double that brought in
Kodee Martin (Jr., Platte County, Mo.) and Sauceda to bring the Pack back within one.
Brock Rodrigues (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) scored on a
Reggie Williams (Fr., Castle Rock, Colo.) sacrifice fly to tie the game at six.
Game two remained tied until the eighth inning, sending the seven-inning contest into extras. The Orediggers broke the tie with five runs in the eighth to make it 11-6. The Pack could not come back in the bottom half as the Orediggers claimed game two.
Andrew Coverly (Jr., Centennial, Colo.) took his second loss of the weekend.
The Pack dropped to 17-19 with a 12-11 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Orediggers improved to 26-9 (16-7 RMAC).
CSU-Pueblo will play Mines in the series finale Sunday. First pitch from Rawlings Field is scheduled for 12 p.m.
