GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (April 12, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Men's Lacrosse's three-game win streak came to an end Friday as the Pack fell to Colorado Mesa University 21-7 at Walker Field.
Tommy Vassallo (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) potted four of the Pack's seven goals. He finished with two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Weston Bartgis (Sr., El Cajon, Calif.) fired in two goals. Bartgis also had two ground balls.
Taylor Davis (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) put in his 35th goal of the season. Davis dished out two assists. He snagged three ground balls and caused a turnover.
Caleb Cole (Fr., Houston, Texas) tacked on two assists.
Anthony Ferrie (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) added an assist.
Devin Thrower (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) caused a team-high two turnovers. He found two ground balls.
The Mavericks scored the game's first six goals. They shutout the Pack in the first quarter. Vassallo got the Pack on the board just over four minutes into the second quarter.
After two more Mesa goals, Vassallo scored again. Bartgis also scored a goal in the first half, but the Pack trailed 13-3 at intermission.
Davis scored the first goal of the second half. Vassallo followed up a Maverick goal with one of his own to cut it to single digits again, 14-5. The Mavericks scored the next six goals to make it 20-5. Vassallo and Bartgis each scored again, but the Mavericks claimed a 21-7 win.
CSU-Pueblo fell to 6-4 with a 1-1 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Pack will look to get back on track when they visit Westminster College Sunday at 12 p.m.
