PUEBLO, Colo. (March 31, 2019) - Colorado State University-Pueblo softball dropped its first two games in a four-game set against Colorado Christian University Sunday at Rawlings Softball Complex.
Christian used two big scoring innings in each game to pull away. CCU won game one 8-2 and took the nightcap 18-5.
The Pack's
Jordan Sheard (Sr., Broomfield, Colo.) led at the plate on the day getting five hits in seven at bats. She collected a pair of RBIs.
In game one, after a scoreless first two innings, CCU put up six runs in the third and the Pack with two runs in their half of the fourth inning.
Gabby Moreno (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) and
Hailey Hicks (Jr., Meridian, Idaho) both reached base to start the frame and after two quick outs,
Sabrina Felix (Jr., Corona, Calif.) knocked a single up the middle and scored the two runners.
The Pack loaded the bases in their next at bat with less than two outs but was unable to score.
Christian scored two more runs in the sixth to put the game at a six run advantage, 8-2. The ThunderWolves got two hits in the final two innings.
In game two, in a steady and small rain/snow, both teams came out hot. After a scoreless first inning, CCU scored two runs in their half of the second and the Pack quickly responded by taking the lead with three runs in the frame.
Senior
Michaela Burpee (Union City, Calif.) hit an RBI-single and later in the inning, Sheard followed it up with a single up the middle with the bases juiced and scoring two runs and a 3-2 lead.
The Cougars regained the lead in the third, a lead they would not give up. The visiting team scored in each inning of the game and scored nine runs in the seventh.
The ThunderWolves scored two runs in their last at bat.
Marissa Piatt (So., San Luis Obispo, Calif.) hit her seventh homerun of the season, a two-run shot.
CCU's Piper Lujan hit two homeruns in the game.
CSU-Pueblo (5-19, 4-16 RMAC) finishes the series with CCU Monday with two more games scheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch at Rawlings Softball Complex.
