Pack Baseball visits No. 25 Dixie State for four games

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 28, 2019) – Colorado State University – Pueblo Baseball will travel to St. George, Utah for a four-game showdown with No. 25 Dixie State University starting Friday at 6 p.m. The Pack and the Trailblazers will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 2 p.m. and wrap up their series Sunday at 12 p.m.

Pack Notes:
- Pack Baseball stands 13-12 overall. They hold an 8-4 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, good for fourth place in the conference standings.  The ThunderWolves took three-of- four from Colorado Christian University last weekend.

- Josh Dahl (Sr., Glendale, Ariz.) earned RMAC Pitcher of the Week honors after shutting out the Cougars last week. Dahl fanned a season-high 13 to improve to 4-2 on the season. He has thrown three consecutive complete games. Dahl stands 3-0 with a 1.71 ERA in conference play.

- Dahl has 61 strikeouts on the season, second-most in the conference. He ranks 12th in D-II in punch outs. The righty has sat down 25 batters looking, seven more than anyone else in the RMAC. He has 28 strikeouts over three RMAC starts.

- Easton Adler (Jr., Mead, Colo.) ranks fourth in the RMAC with a .435 average. Adler has nine steals in nine attempts this season. He ranks third in the RMAC in stolen bases. Adler's .521 on base percentage places him third in the conference.

- Gilbert Sauceda (Sr., Indio, Calif.) has recorded a .530 OBP, second-best in the RMAC and 26th- best in D-II. Sauceda leads the RMAC with 24 walks. He ranks 26th in D-II in free passes.
Sauceda needs three walks to break the Pack's program record, currently held by Chase Lacomb. He will need 20 walks to become the RMAC's all-time record holder in free passes.

- Dakota Popham (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) hit .571 in the series against the Cougars. Popham clubbed four doubles in that series. The preseason All-American raised his average to .393 on the season.

Beau Brieske (Jr., Chandler, Ariz.) leads the RMAC with 70 strikeouts. His 70 K's rank fourth in D-II and are the most by any pitcher with seven starts. Brieske's 16.15 K/9 inning ratio also ranks fourth in D-II. His 3.69 ERA leads all Pack starters.

- In addition to Brieske and Dahl, juniors Brett Matthews (Queen Creek, Ariz.) and Nick Zappala (Anthem Ariz.) are both coming off of quality starts. Matthews surrendered just one unearned run to earn his first win of the season.  Zappala carried a no-hitter into the sixth and also grabbed a win against CCU.

- As a team, the ThunderWolves have averaged 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings. They lead the RMAC with 252 strikeouts. The Pack ranks fourth in D-II in K/9.

Scouting Dixie State:
- The Trailblazers share first place in the RMAC with a 10-2 conference mark. They stand 20-6 overall, but split their series last weekend with New Mexico Highlands University.

- Dixie State is one of the most patient teams in the RMAC. They have drawn 150 walks and have struck out a conference-low 148 times.

- Jake Engel leads the Trailblazers with 10 home runs. His 26 RBIS ranks seventh in the conference.
