PUEBLO, Colo. (Feb. 8, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team lost 89-64 to Black Hills State University Friday at Massari Arena in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest.
The ThunderWolves (6-16, 4-12 RMAC) never led in a game where the Yellow Jackets (12-8, 11-5 RMAC) shot 55.4 percent from the field and hit 13 3-pointers, en route to their fifth straight victory. CSU-Pueblo shot 42.1 percent from the field and hit on just 6-of-23 (26.1%) of its 3-point attempts.
The Pack won the rebounding battle 34-31, which included 11 offensive boards. BHSU capitalized on 12 ThunderWolves turnovers to produce 19 points and the road team added 10 fast break points aided by eight steals.
Freshman center
Jonathan Hall (Sudbury, Suffolk, England) came off the bench in the second half and scored a team-high 11 points in nine minutes of play. He shot 4-of-6 (66.7%) from the field and hit on 3-of-6 from the free throw line. Hall added three rebounds.
Guard
BJ Hardy (R-So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the only other player to reach double figures, as he scored 10 points off the bench with a 3-for-4 (75%) performance from the field, which included two 3-pointers. Also off the pine, freshman
Cade Carrol (G/F, Buena Vista, Colo.) gathered a team-best nine rebounds. Center
Jason Anderson (R-Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) had eight points, four rebounds and team-best four assists.
CSU-Pueblo was within two possessions for the first six minutes of the game, then the Yellow Jackets built a 10-point advantage at 23-13 with 12:39 to go in the opening half. The Pack knocked down two 3-pointers during their next two possessions to get within four at 23-19 with 11:05 showing on the game clock.
BHSU responded with a 14-4 run to open up a 37-23 lead with just under five to play in the first half. The ThunderWolves would get within eight on two occasions before facing a 13-point hole at half, 47-34.
Twelve would be as close as the home team would get during the second half, as they suffered the 25-point loss.
Saturday is Take A Kid To The Game Night at Massari Arena, which will feature Super Masot Rocky of the Denver Nuggets. All youth 17 and under are free and a Kid's Zone will be available with tattoos, coloring, autographs from the basketball teams and more.
