Pack Baseball tangles with Minot State in 3-game series starting Friday

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 28, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball will face Minot State University in the Pack's final tune up before the start of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Pack will face the Beavers in a double-header Friday at 12:30 p.m. The series concludes with a 12 p.m. game Saturday.

Promotion:
Friday's doubleheader will be another Youth day at Rawlings Field. All kids 17 & under will receive free admission.

Pack Notes:
JP Hopkins (R-Jr., Chino Hills, Calif.) earned RMAC Hitter of the Week honors. Hopkins hit .643 (9-for-14) for the series. He had four extra base hits with three doubles and a triple.

Hopkins leads the RMAC with a .571 batting average. His .609 OBP ranks second and .952 slugging percentage ranks third in the conference.

The Pack leads the RMAC with a .328 team batting average. They sit 21st nationally in hitting. The ThunderWolves average 9.6 runs per game, 13th-most in D-II.

Beau Brieske (Jr., Chandler, Ariz.) leads the RMAC with 29 strikeouts. He ranks second in strikeouts nationwide among players with only three starts.  Brieske ranks fourth among players with multiple appearances in D-II with 17.50 strikeouts per nine innings.

Gilbert Sauceda (Sr., Indio, Calif.) leads the RMAC with 13 walks this season. Sauceda's 1.30 walks per game ranks 26th in D-II. With 121 career walks, Sauceda needs 31 walks to become the RMAC's all-time leader and walks.

The Pack's first baseman needs 14 walks to set a school record. He already ranks third in conference history. Sauceda ranks fifth in the RMAC with a .551 OBP.
Rion Santamaria (Jr., Yorba Linda, Calif.) shares the national lead in triples with four. As a team, the Pack ranks ninth in triples per game. Santmaria holds a .441 batting average.

CSU-Pueblo has achieved a .438 OBP through 10 games. They rank 18th in D-II in OBP.

Timmy Burtzloff (Sr., Thousand Oaks, Calif.) leads the Pack's bullpen regulars with a 2.16 ERA. Burtzloff allowed just one run in six innings of relief against the Rams last week.

Josh Dahl (Sr., Glendale, Ariz.) ranks third in the RMAC with 23 strikeouts. As a team, the Pack leads the RMAC with 11.1 K/9 innings. They stand 26th in D-II.
The Pack will look to snap a seven-game losing streak. They stand 3-7 overall. CSU-Pueblo entered the final inning of both of Sunday's games either tied or in the lead, but could not get past Angelo State University.

Scouting Minot State:
Minot State will make their 2019 debut Friday. They won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with 29-6 record in conference play. They went 34-16 overall last season.
