PITTSBURG, Kan. (February 10, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball fell to Pittsburg State University 14-7 Sunday in the finale of their three-game series at Al Ortolani Field.
Rion Santamaria (Jr., Yorba Linda, Calif.) collected two hits in four trips. Santamaria drove in two runs and scored once.
Gilbert Sauceda (Sr., Indio, Calif.) finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. For the series, Sauceda finished with a .555 batting average and a .692 OBP.
Easton Adler (Jr., Mead, Colo.) reached base three times, going 1-for-3 with two walks. Adler scored a run.
Dakota Popham (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) had two hits in four at bats. Popham also scored a run.
Matt Goytia (Jr., La Puente, Calif.) struck out all three batters he faced in the eighth. Goytia has pitched 4.2 scoreless innings of relief this season.
The Pack jumped out to a four-run lead. They put up fall our runs in the third. Santamaria drove in Adler and Sauceda on a two-run single. Santamaria and
Emilio Martinez (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored on an error.
However, the Pack's lead was short lived as the Gorillas answered with five runs in the third. The Pack tied it up in the fourth when Martinez drove in Sauceda on a RBI groundout. Facing a tied game, the Gorillas erupted for six runs in the fourth.
The ThunderWolves scored one run in the fifth when
Aidan Welch (So., Seattle, Wash.) scored on a Sauceda single. They added one more in the sixth when Popham came around while Santamaria was caught in a run-down.
Pittsburgh State came back with one run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to secure a 14-7 win and the three-game sweep. The Pack now sits 3-3, while the Gorillas improved to 4-2.
The Pack will return home Friday Feb. 22 when they host Angelo State University at Rawlings Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
