Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. (February 1, 2019) – On the 25th opening day since the program restart,ed Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball scored 25 runs in a dominating 25-1 victory over Adams State University Friday at Rawlings Field.
The Pack's 25 run outburst was its highest since May 4, 2013 when they beat the Grizzlies by the same score. All 24 ThunderWolves who batted reached base at least once. In total 15 different players scored a run for the Pack.
Daniel Abiles (Jr., Chandler, Ariz.) delivered in his debut. Abiles slugged the Pack's first home run of the season and posted an incredible seven RBIs. The catcher finished 2-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored.
Beau Brieske (Jr., Chandler, Ariz.) shut down the Adams State offense. Brieske got the win in his Pack debut with five innings pitched. He did not allow a run and gave up just four hits and a walk. Brieske fanned 10 batters in his first start with the Pack.
Aidan Welch (So., Seattle, Wash.) clubbed two doubles on a 3-for-4 day with one free pass. Welch drove in two runs and scored once.
Adrian Martinez (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) scored three runs. Martinez went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. He reached base four times in his debut after getting hit by a pitch.
After Brieske started the game with a 1-2-3 inning, the Pack erupted for 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The ThunderWolves batted around twice in the first inning alone, sending 18 men to the plate.
The big blows of the inning came when Welch swatted a two-run double. Abiles promptly followed with a three-run dinger that made it 7-0 before the Pack had its first out. Seven walks put the Pack up a dozen after the first.
CSU-Pueblo added another run on an Abiles single in the third to make it 13-0. Two more Pack runs came across in the fifth that started a string four consecutive innings with a run for the Pack.
The Grizzlies scored a run in the sixth, the Pack matched them with one of their own when Abiles drove in Martinez on a fielder's choice.
When the Pack went to its bench, the runs continued to come home. The Pack scored three in the seventh including another Abiles RBI.
Mason Hayes (Sr., Draper, Utah) and
Zac Hanenberg (Fr., Cañon City, Colo.) also added their firs Pack RBIs in the seventh.
In the eighth inning, the Pack batted around again. This time 10 hitters came to the dish as the Pack scored six more runs.
Talon Schaller (Sr., Lakewood, Colo.) launched a two-run triple to right field that brought in
Chase Ratliff (Fr., Austin, Texas) and
Robbie Espinosa (Sr., Yorba Linda, Calif.). Espinosa scored two runs and had a double of his own.

Brock Rodrigues (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) smacked a two-run double.
JP Hopkins (R-Jr., Chino Hills, Calif.) and
Stone Romero (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) scored their first runs with the Pack to make it 25-1.
The Pack totaled 22 hits, 11 of which went for extra bases. They showed patience drawing 14 walks.
Gilbert Sauceda (Sr., Indio, Calif.) walked twice, giving him 110 career free passes. He scored two runs and reached base three times.
Easton Adler (Jr., Mead, Colo.) and
Dakota Popham (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) each scored twice. The former junior college teammates each reached base three times.
The Pack will look to keep the momentum going Saturday when they meet the Grizzlies again in game two of this season opening series. First pitch at Rawlings Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
