Williams nets double-double vs. No. 17 Westminster

PUEBLO, Colo. (December 13, 2019) – Despite a double-double from Sydni Williams, Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball could not upset No. 17 Westminster College as the Pack fell 59-41 Friday at Massari Arena. 

Williams (Little Rock, Ark.) shined for the Pack on both sides of the ball. She scored a season-high 19 points. Williams made 6-of-12 from the field including a 3-pointer. She finished 6-8 from the charity stripe. 

Defensively, Williams came up with three blocks for the second consecutive game. She also added two steals. Williams completed the double-double with a season-high 10 rebounds. 

JaNaiya Davis (So., Hewitt, Texas) nearly had a double-double of her own. Davis contributed nine points and eight rebounds. 

The Pack's defense dominated the opening quarter. CSU-Pueblo held Westminster to just six points in the first. The Griffins made just 21.4 percent from the field in the first. 

CSU-Pueblo held the Griffins scoreless for almost seven minutes (9:21 to 2:45) Williams matched Westminster with six points in the first 10 minutes. The Pack led 8-6 heading into the second. 

In the second quarter, Westminster woke up. The Griffins exploded with a 14-0 run that made it 20-8. They answered a Pack bucket with another 8-0 run and led 28-14 at the half. 

Westminster's second quarter flurry was enough as they pulled away with a 59-41 win. The Pack could not get back within 10 throughout the second half. 

 CSU-Pueblo drops to 2-6 with a 1-2 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Four of the Pack's six losses have come against teams in the top 20. Westminster improved to 9-1 (4-0 RMAC). 

The Pack will continue their homestand Saturday at 5:30 p.m. when they host Dixie State University at Massari Arena. Saturday's game will be Pueblo District 70 night. All D-70 students get in free and staff receive a $2 discount with an ID.
