ALAMOSA, Colo. (November 9, 2019) – It took five sets, but Colorado State University-Pueblo Volleyball fought past Adams State University for a 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 19-25, 15-13) win a Plachy Hall Friday.
Diamond'Nique Young (Fr., Fresno, Calif.) hit a team-best .500. Young finished with nine kills. She totaled eight blocks. The freshman finished with a career-best five solo blocks.
Maddy Wisniewski (Jr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the Pack with 12 kills. She had six assists.
Payton Stack (Jr., Casper, Wyo.) knocked down 11 kills and two blocks. Stack hit .280.
Outside hitters
Brooke Schilling (Jr., Platteville, Colo.) and
Sarah Vang (Sr., Parker, Colo.) combined for 14 kills. Vang matched her season-high with 19 digs. Schilling secured 18 digs.
Kyle Meltzer (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo.) led the Pack with 22 digs. Meltzer needed just one assist for a double-double, handing out nine for the night.
The Pack used a 9-1 run to make it 15-8 in the first set. Adams State closed with one several times during the first set but the Pack pulled out a 25-21 win in the first.
Adams State raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first. The Pack could not get any closer than three points as they dropped the second set 25-20.
The third set remained close until the Pack used a 5-0 run to take a 22-16 lead. They ended up winning the set 25-17.
Adams State won the fourth set 25-19. This forced a fifth set.
In the decisive fifth set, the Pack lunged out to a 10-4 lead. The Grizzlies rallied and tied the fifth set a 13.
Jazzy Espinoza (So., Cheyenne, Wyo.) knocked down a kill to make it 14-13. On match point, Young batted down a kill that clinched the win for the Pack.
The win was the Pack's first against Adams State since 2015. CSU-Pueblo improved to 12-13 with a 9-7 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Adams State dropped to 7-18 (4-12 RMAC).
The Pack will play its last road match of the regular season Saturday at Fort Lewis College. First serve between the Pack and Skyhawks is slated for 5:30 p.m.
