KINGSVILLE, Texas (Nov. 29, 2019) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team fell 70-58 at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in the opener of the Emerald Beach Thanksgiving Tournament.
The ThunderWolves moved to 2-3 on the season with the loss. The Pack outshot the Javelinas from the field with a 42.3 percentage to the home team's 40 percent. TAMK hit 11 3-pointers and pulled down 13 offensive rebounds, which turned into 19 second chance points. CSU-Pueblo gave up 19 points off its 16 turnovers.
Junior
Bryce Sanchious (F, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) led the team in scoring with 14 points off the bench. He was 5-of-7 (71.4%) from the field wit four rebounds.
Freshman
Jaedon Bowles (F, Aurora, Colo.) scored 12 points on 5-of-10 (50%) shooting from the field with three rebounds and two assists.
Tyson Gilbert (So., G, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) added 11 points off the bench and pulled down five rebounds. Senior
Jason Anderson (C, Colorado Springs, Colo.) added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The game was tied on eight occasions and lead changed hands eight times, all of which happened in the first 16:10. Neither team had a lead bigger than four points during that stretch.
A Bowles layup tied the game 24-24 with 3:50 left, but a 9-2 run by the home team gave the Javelinas a 33-26 lead with just under two minutes remaining in the first half. The Pack scored the final three points to get within one possession at the half, 33-29.
Down eight at 42-34 three minutes into the second half, the ThunderWolves rebounded with a 6-0 run on two Gilbert 3-pointers. The run spanned three minutes of game clock, as the Pack was down 42-40 with 14:08 left.
Texas A&M-Kingsville responded with an 11-0 run to break open a 13-point lead at the midway point of the frame. CSU-Pueblo would get within five on two occasions, but that would be as close as it would get in the 12-point loss.
The ThunderWolves close the weekend playing Angelo State University at 2 p.m. MST.
