PUEBLO, Colo. (October 6, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team used a solid team performance and two goals scored by
Madison Jepperson (Jr., Cottonwood Heights, UT) lifted the ThunderWolves past New Mexico Highlands, 5-0 Sunday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
Jepperson netted her third and fourth goals of the season, scoring in the 11' and in the final minute of the first half for the Pack. She finished the match with a game-high six shots.
The match began with the ThunderWolves taking possession from the onset. Goal one came off the Pack's second shot of the match, when
Cara Siegel (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) dished a pass from the far side, in to the box, allowing Jepperson to get a good shot off that went past the diving goalkeeper.
The first half battle continued with the Pack holding possession for majority of the period. Highlands managed five shots in the period and was guided by Janis Martinez's four shots in the game.
The Pack added to their lead with two goals in a 4:25 span during the first half.
Kristin Guin (So., Mid., Alamogordo, NM) found the net for her first score of the season after taking a shot, centered inside the six-yard box for the score in the 41'. Jepperson earned the assist on the play.
Jepperson kept her name in the stat sheet by scoring her second goal of the match with less than a minute to play in the first half.
Summer Hatch (So., Elizabeth, Colo.) earned an assist, feeding a pass in to Jepperson.
At intermission, the Pack led 9-5 in shots and neither team recorded a corner attempt.
In the second half, Pack defender
Jordin Schaller (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) gathered at the net and headed in a ball from a corner kick taken by
Porsche Nieto (So., Thornton, Colo.).
Not letting off the gas, the ThunderWolves put up goal number five during the 75' when Guin booted a pass from beyond midfield ahead to
Victoria Mitrick (So., Pueblo, Colo.) who was able to finish and score her first goal of the season.
Guin, who was active throughout the match at midfield, earned herself an assist, passing ahead to Mitrick.
The ThunderWolves finished the match holding a 17-14 shot advantage and both teams posted two corner kick tries.
Pack goalkeeper
Rylie Martin (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) made four saves and faced ten shots by NMHU in 74 minutes between the frame.
Erika Riedmuller (So., Elizabeth, Colo.) saw her first minutes of the season and made one save on four shots in just over sixteen minutes at goal.
CSU-Pueblo (3-5-1, 2-2-1 RMAC) remains at home next week and hosts Black Hills State (Oct. 11) at 4:30 p.m. and Regis (Oct. 13) at 2:30 p.m., both matches at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
