PUEBLO, Colo. (October 25, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team won a thrilling match 1-0, Friday over No. 25 Westminster College at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium behind a goal scored in the 88' by
Carlos Espinoza (Jr., Simi Valley, Calif.).
Espinoza's goal, his fifth of the season, proved as the game winner against the Griffins who came into the game in second place in the RMAC standings.
Playing in their biggest match in recent memory so late in the season, the ThunderWolves withstood a strong offensive output by Westminster as the defense held strong in the outing.
In the match, the Pack out shot the Griffins 12-6 and held a 5-4 in corner kick advantage.
Pack freshman
Dominik Huetgens (So., Halstenbek, Germany) led all players with four shots and two on goal.
At intermission, both teams had five shots recorded.
The ThunderWolves finished with seven shots on frame against three for Westminster.
Pack goalkeeper
Tyler Harvey (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) made three saves on six shots for the Griffins.
With the win, the Pack now has 18 conference points and sit in a tie with Sunday's opponent, Dixie State, with three games remaining.
CSU-Pueblo (6-9, 6-5 RMAC) finishes the home portion of its schedule Sunday and battles Dixie at 12 p.m. at Gonzales Stadium. Ahead of the match, Pack Head Coach
