Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Martin, defense stave off pesky Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (October 20, 2019) - With two weeks left in the regular season, the Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team displayed its strongest defensive outing of the year, defeating Colorado Mesa 1-0 Sunday at Walker Field in Grand Junction, Colo.

In the match, despite being outshot by a 19-8 clip, the ThunderWolves scored the lone goal of the game in the 19' when Sierra Perez (Jr., Arvada, Colo.) served a pass to Justine Martinez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) and she finished with her fourth goal of the year.

CSU-Pueblo's defense stepped up following the score and was strong in defending several CMU strikers.

The next ThunderWolves shot came in the 37' on a shot high and left of the net.

At halftime, CSU-Pueblo had two shots and one corner.

The second half, the Pack relied heavily on the play at midfield and back line. Sabrina Bridwell (So., Longmont, Colo.) and Jordin Schaller (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) combined to shut down the middle of the box, while Perez and Alicia Ramirez (Sr., Oro Valley, Ariz.) did they part in keeping the Mavericks at bay.

Colorado Mesa did not let up in their attack of Martin and the Pack defense. In a ten-minute span from the 54' to the 64', Martin made five saves including an acrobatic save on back-to-back shots by CMU.

Over the last twenty minutes of action, the Pack finished with three shots and one on goal. CMU had one shot on goal and several shots that went wide of the net in that time.

CSU-Pueblo (6-6-1, 5-3-1 RMAC) will finish their road portion of the regular season next week and travel to Utah and take on Westminster Friday and will wrap the week Sunday against Dixie State.
