Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, UT (October 25, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie Friday at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, earning a big conference point heading in to the final three games of the regular season.
The Pack received two first half scores from
Litzy Serna (Jr., West Jordan, UT) and
Cara Siegel (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.).
In the first half, the ThunderWolves defense stepped up in a big way, fending off two quick shots to open the match. The defense held their composure after ten minutes lapsed, blocking back-to-back shots.
After twenty minutes of play, the Griffins had put up nine shots including four that landed on frame.
Following a foul against Westminster, the ThunderWolves drove the free kick ball down field and
Justine Martinez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) fed a pass in Serna, who finished with a shot high and to the right inside the post for her third goal of the season.
Just over two minutes later, the Pack again found possession in Westminster territory and Siegel scored her second goal of the year on an assist by
Madison Jepperson (Jr., Cottonwood Heights, UT) to give the Pack a two-goal lead at intermission.
At halftime, the ThunderWolves had three shots against thirteen for WC. The home team put up five corner kick attempts in the period.
In the second half, the Pack offense came out of the gate strong.
Summer Hatch (So., Elizabeth, Colo.) fired her first shot on goal that was saved by the Griffins goalkeeper, one minute into the half.
With 38' remaining in the match, CSU-Pueblo took possession into WC side of the pitch and had two shots blocked but the Pack kept the pressure and Griffins defense on their heels.
Westminster countered by driving the ball past midfield and finishing with a goal in the 53', cutting into the Pack's lead.
The Griffins evened the score during the 60'.
Over the final thirty minutes, the Pack recorded one shot.
In the first overtime, the ThunderWolves shot three attempts with one landing on goal. Defensively, the Pack held the Griffins without a shot attempt.
During the second overtime period, the Griffins put up three shots on goal that were all saved by Pack goalkeeper
Rylie Martin (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.).
Martin finished the match with a career-high 19 saves against 36 shots by Westminster.
CSU-Pueblo (6-6-2, 5-3-2 RMAC) finishes the road trip Sunday at Dixie State. Kickoff with the Trailblazers is set for 1:30 p.m. at Trailblazer Stadium in St. George, Utah.
