PUEBLO, Colo. (October 13, 2019) - Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer picked up a big Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) win Sunday, beating Regis University 2-1 in overtime at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
Porsche Nieto (So., Thornton, Colo.) and
Summer Hatch (So., Elizabeth, Colo.) each scored in the matinee match.
Starting the match, the ThunderWolves gave up a goal in the seventh minute on a misplayed ball that found the back of the net for the early lead.
The Pack picked up their energy after the score and they kept the pressure on the Rangers.
The first half became a defensive battle as both teams put up seven shots combined by intermission. Regis held a 2-1 corner kick advantage at the break.
Regis came out in the second half and put up two quick shots to open the period. The Pack's defensive back line was stellar in holding the potent Regis lineup at bay.
The Pack managed four shots in the second half, the last coming in the 86' when
Justine Martinez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) received a pass from beyond midfield and over the defense, causing the Regis goalkeeper to step out and make a sliding stop against Martinez, causing the ball to ricochet and stay inside the six-yard box and Nieto following the play, got the loose ball and hit a cross shot to the far post, past the diving keeper for the equalizer goal.
Tied at one apiece, the ThunderWolves sent the match into extra time and riding the high from the tying goal, the Pack made one shot attempt, two minutes into overtime.
In extra time, a Pack throw-in from the far side landed at the top of the penalty box and passed to
Litzy Serna (Jr., West Jordan, UT) who booted the ball ahead and high, giving Hatch the open look to head in the ball to land just inside the right post for the game winner. it landing
Pack goalkeeper
Rylie Martin (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) made five saves at the net, facing 12 shots by RU.
CSU-Pueblo (5-5-1, 4-2-1 RMAC) begins a four-game road trip next week, traveling to Grand Junction, Colo. to take on Western Colorado University Friday at Walker Field, Colorado Mesa's pitch, and the Pack will wrap the week on the same pitch Sunday when they face Mesa.
