Team effort lifts Pack past the 100-point mark, Cougars, in 102-62 road win

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (Jan. 4, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team began 2019 by dominating in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road win at Colorado Christian University Friday, as the ThunderWolves won 102-62. 
 
The Pack (4-8, 2-4 RMAC) eclipsed the 100-point mark for the first time this season thanks to a 56.8 percent shooting effort from the field and a 12-for-23 (52.2%) performance from long range. The ThunderWolves defense also stepped up and allowed the Cougars (2-10, 0-6 RMAC) to hit on just 39.1 percent of their shots. CCU entered the game shooting 47.2 percent from the field, which was fourth best in the RMAC.
 
CSU-Pueblo also cleaned up on the glass by a 46-31 margin. The Pack held the lead for 38:10 of the 40 minutes and built their largest advantage to 43 points at 97-54 with five minutes left in the second half.
 
The ThunderWolves dished out 20 assists and committed just eight turnovers, while forcing 11 miscues by CCU.
 
Five players scored in double figures for the Pack, while eight student-athletes posted eight or more points. The Pack were guided by center Jason Anderson (R-Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), who returned to the lineup after missing the last two games before break. He totaled 15 points in just 16 minutes on a 7-for-9 (77.8%) effort from the field. He also brought down four rebounds and had two steals.
 
Sophomore Corey Seng (G/F, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) recorded his third straight double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, all on the defensive end. He shot 5-of-7 (71.4%) from the field and added three assists with a steal.
 
Redshirt-junior Donovan Oldham (G/F, Colorado Springs, Colo.) totaled 14 points and was 6-for-9 (66.7%) from the field. Guard Gavin Liggett (R-Sr., Limon, Colo.) knocked down four 3-pointers on his five attempts (80%) and posted 12 points. Finally, Harvey Barr (R-Jr., C, Southampton, England, UK) produced 11 points off the bench. He shot 5-for-9 (55.6%) from the field, brought down four rebounds and swatted away a game-high three blocks.
 
Guard BJ Hardy (R-So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the team with six assists and added nine points.
 
After a back-and-forth opening five minutes, CCU was ahead 8-7 with 14:36 showing on the game clock. An Oldham 3-pointer on the Pack's next possession gave the ThunderWolves a lead it wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way. The dagger from downtown also jump started an 18-2 run during the next four minutes of game time that handed the road team a 25-10 lead midway though the opening half. Five different players scored during the run with Oldham dropping nine points.
 
After allowing a bucket, CSU-Pueblo rattled off a 10-0 run and would eventually build the lead to 32 at 53-21 at the break. The Pack shot 61.1 percent from the field in the first half, while the Cougars hit on just 34.5 percent of their shots. Oldham had a team-high 12 points, while Anderson had 11 and Seng totaled eight of his 11 rebounds in the opening frame.
 
The ThunderWolves kept their foot on the gas in the second half and won the final 20 minutes 49-41 to secure the 40-point victory.
 
The Pack have won two in a row and will travel to Regis University (7-5, 4-2 RMAC) Saturday for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Rangers.
