PUEBLO, Colo. (January 29, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball will begin its 25th season since the program restarted Friday when the ThunderWolves host Adams State University at 1 p.m. at Rawlings Field.
To celebrate this milestone, Pack Baseball will be offering free admission to all fans for this game. The first 100 Pack fans will also receive a free t-shirt. CSU-Pueblo is hoping to break its opening day attendance record of 582 set in 1997.
The Pack will also be offering free admission for all three games of their opening weekend series against Adams State. The ThunderWolves and Grizzlies will meet at Rawlings Field Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m.
CSU-Pueblo Athletics will also start selling beer at Pack Baseball games starting this weekend at Rawlings Field. Beer can be purchased by fans 21 years of age and older. Beer sales will cease after the seventh inning of nine inning games and after the fifth inning of seven-inning games.
For younger fans, Pack Baseball will be offering free admission to all kids 18 and under on Fridays throughout the 2019 season. These Friday youth days will continue throughout the season including RMAC games and premium games.
Head Coach
Stan Sanchez will begin his 25th season at the helm of the Pack Baseball program. Sanchez has a Rocky Mountain athletic Conference record 836 career wins with the ThunderWolves.
In the past 24 seasons, Sanchez has produced 20 winning seasons. The ThunderWolves have qualified for eight NCAA Tournaments. They also have eight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships.
The Pack will look to improve on their 29-23 record from a season ago. They finished 19-16 in RMAC play.
Led by NCBWA Preseason All-American
Dakota Popham (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) the Pack was picked to finish fourth in the RMAC this year. A total of 15 ThunderWolves return from last year's team.
These returners include
Gilbert Sauceda (Sr., Indio, Calif.) who needs 44 walks to become the RMAC's all-time leader in free passes. Sauceda needs 27 walks to become the Pack's all-time leader.
Andrew Nero (Sr., Huntington Beach, Calif.) who posted a 1.45 ERA in 2018 returns to anchor the Pack's bullpen.
Adams State finished 3-47 last year. The Grizzlies went 3-33 in RMAC play. This weekend's series will not count towards the conference standings.
