Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

First half hinders Pack in loss to Hardrockers

RAPID CITY, S.D. (Jan. 25, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team suffered a 78-60 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road loss at the hands of South Dakota School of Mines & Technology Friday.

The ThunderWolves (5-13, 3-9 RMAC) lost their third straight (all on the road), as the team's shooting struggles continued. The Pack shot 30.8 percent in the first half and scored just 19 points, while they finished shooting 36.1 percent and scored in the 60's for the third straight game. The Hardrockers (8-12, 5-7 RMAC) shot 50 percent in the game and won the rebounding battle 45-30.

The Pack were led by sophomore Corey Seng (G/F, Highlands Ranch, Colo.), who totaled 14 points for the only member of the team in double figures. He added four rebounds with a team-high three steals and two assists.

CSU-Pueblo scored the first five points of the game to lead through the first two minutes, but trailed 7-6 at the five minute mark of the opening half. The Pack and Hardrockers traded buckets to a 10-10 tie with 13:33 showing on the game clock. Both teams stalled out for the next three minutes, as SDM&T led 14-10 midway through the half.

The ThunderWolves got down 18-11, but battled back to a 20-15 deficit with 7:30 left. Again, the road team failed to put points on the board for a long stretch, as it was four minutes before they scored again. By the time the Pack got on the board they would be down 29-17 and would only muster two more points in the final 3:30 to trail 34-19 at the break.

The deficit proved to be too much in the second half, as the Pack would fall by 18.

Next the ThunderWolves battle Black Hills State University Saturday at 7 p.m. to close the four-game road trip.
