Knafelc’s game-winner, Williams' 23 points power Pack past Eagles 68-67

Box Score CHADRON, Neb. (January 19, 2019) – With 10.3 seconds on the clock, Jennah Knafelc sank a 3-pointer that vaulted Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball to a 68-67 win over Chadron State College Saturday at the Chicoine Center.
 
Sydni Williams (So., Little Rock, Ark.) scored a game-high 23 points. Williams made 5-of-9 from the field. She swished 13-of-17 from the free throw line. Williams hauled in five rebounds.
 
Knafelc (Sr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tacked on 17 points. The senior made 4-of-11 from downtown, but none bigger than her game-winner. She added four steals and two blocks, matching season-highs in both categories.
 
Nadirah Oakman (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) netted six points and picked up five rebounds. Naomi Torgerson (Jr., Anoka, Minn.) finished with eight points and two steals. All eight of Torgerson's points came in the first half.
 
A 5-0 run gave the Pack a 14-9 lead in the first quarter. They held a 20-15 edge after one.  Williams and Torgerson each finished with seven points in the first.
 
CSU-Pueblo used a 7-0 run in the second quarter to take a 31-18 lead. This 13-point advantage was the Pack's largest lead of the game.  The Eagles closed the quarter on a 12-4 run to make it 35-30 at halftime.
 
Just 2:36 into the second half, Chadron tied the game at 37. The two teams engaged in a see-saw battle for most of the third. In the final three minutes, the Pack embarked on a 9-2 run that made it 55-49 heading into the final frame.
 
The Eagles reclaimed the lead at 62-61 with 2:19 left. They put the Pack on the ropes, holding a 66-62 lead with just 55 seconds to play. Williams put down a layup. She got fouled and made the ensuing free throw to make it a one-point game with 25 seconds left.
 
After the Eagles made a free throw of their own, they led 67-65 with 18 seconds remaining. As the clock ticked down to 10 seconds, Knafelc drained a 3-pointer to put the Pack back in front 68-67. The Eagles had two chances to make a game-winner of their own, but neither  found net as the Pack escaped with a 68-67 win.
 
The Pack improved to 9-8 overall with a 7-4 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Chadron State stumbled to 3-14 (2-9 RMAC).
 
CSU-Pueblo will continue its four-game road trip with a visit to the Mount Rushmore state to face South Dakota School of Mines & Technology Friday and Black Hills State  University Saturday.
