ThunderWolves drop RMAC contest to Eagles

CHADRON, Neb. (Jan. 19, 2019) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team lost 71-62 to Chadron State College Saturday in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road game.

The ThunderWolves (5-12, 3-8 RMAC) shot 43.6 percent from the field and held the Eagles (9-8, 7-4 RMAC) to 38.6 percent, but CSC hit 13 more free throws on just eight more attempts. CSU-Pueblo went 7-for-16 (43.8%) from the line, while the home team posted a 20-for-24 (83.3%) effort from the charity stripe.

The Pack won the turnover category 17-14, but CSC capitalized more on their opportunities with 17 points off miscues to the ThunderWolves' 12. The Eagles also got it done on the boards, winning that category 43-29, which included 13 offensive boards to CSU-Pueblo's five.

Jason Anderson (R-Jr., C, Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the Pack's top scorer with 16 points on an impressive 7-for-10 (70%) shooting effort from the field. He was 2-for-2 from long range and added four rebounds with two blocks.

Jordan Phillips (R-So., G/F, Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished with 10 points as the only other player in double figures scoring. He shot 50 percent from the field (4-for-8) and added three rebounds with three steals, a block and an assist.

The Eagles jumped out to a 12-0 lead during the first three minutes of play and were ahead 22-12 at 11:23 before the Pack woke up and rattled off a 13-0 run to grab a 25-22 lead with 5:01 remaining in the opening half. During the run four different players scored, while Dalen Jackson (R-Fr., G, Colorado Springs, Colo.) totaled all seven of his points during the run.

The final five minutes was a back-and-forth battle with the Eagles opening a 36-32 lead before the buzzer.

The ThunderWolves were leading 52-48 with 9:41 remaining in regulation, but it would be the last time they would lead, as CSC produced a 12-2 run down to the 5:22 mark to lead 60-54. The Pack battled back and scored the next four points and trailed by just two at 60-58 with 4:03 remaining, but CSU-Pueblo would only produce four points in the remaining minutes to lose 71-62.

Next up, the ThunderWolves remain on the road Jan. 25-26 at South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State University.
