Williams’ double-double not enough for Pack

Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. (January 12, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Basketball was knocked off by Colorado Mesa University 67-58 Saturday at Massari Arena.
 
Sydni Williams (So., Little Rock, Ark.) scored 18 points. She completed her first double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Williams was a perfect 10-of-10 on free throws.
 
JaNaiya Davis (Fr., Houston, Texas) finished with 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Davis delivered three steals and five rebounds.
 
Jennah Knafelc (Sr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tacked on 10 points. She matched her season-high with four steals, before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
 
Naomi Torgerson (Jr., Anoka, Minn.) netted nine points. Torgerson finished with a block.
 
The Pack fell behind early as the Mavericks started the game on a 12-4 run. CSU-Pueblo surged back thanks to a 10-0 run that gave the Pack the lead. The Mavericks  used a 3-pointer to take a 15-14 lead after one.
 
In the second quarter, the Pack built a game-high four-point lead after scoring the first five points of the quarter. The Pack went almost eight minutes without a point in the second quarter, prompting a 12-0 Maverick run. They claimed a 32-23 lead at the break.
 
The Mavericks jumped in front by 13 with 4:18 left in the third. The Pack closed within five by the end of the quarter, 47-42.
 
Midway through the fourth, the Pack clawed back within two. A Knafelc 3-pointer gave the Pack its first lead since the opening minutes of the second quarter at 54-53. However, Colorado Mesa went on a 12-0 run. They would put away the Pack 67-58.
 
The Pack fell to 8-7 overall. They are 6-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Colorado Mesa maintained their share of first place in the RMAC thanks to their 9-0 record in RMAC play. They are 12-1 overall.
 
After suffering back-to-back home losses in the regular season for the first time since 2013, the Pack will head back on the road for four straight games. Their road trip begins with a visit to Metro State University Denver Friday at 5:30 p.m.
