TAMPA, Fla.  (March 30, 2018) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Women's Lacrosse took a 14-7 loss to the No. 17 ranked University of Tampa at Naimoli Field.

Alix Zierden (Sr., Elk River, Minn.) matched her season-high with four goals. She put in four of her five shots on net. Zierden now has 15 goals on the season.

Rachael Welzin (Sr., Farmington, Minn.) led the Pack with six ground balls. Her four caused turnovers also topped the team. She has averaged 6.0 ground balls and 4.25 caused turnovers per game over her last four contests.

Sami LaBella (Jr., Pleasanton, Calif.) and Britney Smith (So., Oregon City, Ore.) each secured three ground balls. LaBella caused three turnovers, while Smith caused one.

Ane Marie Horton (R-So., Long Beach, Calif.) made 18 saves on 32 shots for a .563 save percentage.  Horton accumulated three ground balls.

Leah Neumann (Sr., Naperville, Ill.) had two assists. The Spartans held Neumann without a goal for the first time this season.

Zierden got the Pack on the board with the game's first goal just 19 seconds into the game. Tampa answered back with five straight goals before Zierden found the back of the net again.

Elyse Ingram (So., San Jose, Calif.) scored to bring the Pack within two at 5-3. The Spartans bounced back with three straight goals to make it 8-3.  Maxine Bartholomew (Sr., Elk Grove, Calif.) tacked on a goal with 45 seconds left to make it 8-4 heading into the break.

Zierden fired in the first goal of the second half to bring the Pack back within three. The Spartans strike twice before Zierden netted her fourth of the game to make it 10-6.

Tampa tacked on four more insurance goals to push their lead to a game-high eight. Taylor Christensen (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored with 17 seconds left in the game, but the Spartans ran away with a 14-7 win.  

The Spartans improved to 9-3. The Pack will return home with a 1-8 record overall. They will resume Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play Sunday April 8 when they play Adams State University at 2 p.m.
