Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pack suffer home loss to Grizzlies

PUEBLO, Colo. (Dec. 7, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team suffered an 86-74 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference home loss to Adams State University Friday at Massari Arena.

The ThunderWolves (2-6, 0-2 RMAC) lost their fourth straight, while the Grizzlies (2-5, 2-0 RMAC) have won two consecutive games. The Pack took seven more shots, but could only produce a 41.2 percentage from the field, while ASU hit on 50.8 percent. Adams State was 10-for-20 (50%) from long range, while the ThunderWolves shot 30 times from beyond the arc, but only dropped eight (26.7%). The home team did a better job taking care of the ball and had 11 turnovers, while producing 10 takeaways. The Grizzlies won the battle of the glass 42-35 and totaled 19 assists.

Donovan Oldham (R-Jr., G/F, Colorado Springs, Colo.) played all 40 minutes and totaled 27 points with three 3-pointers and an 8-for-9 effort from the free throw line. He also added five rebounds with a team-high four assists.

Center Jason Anderson (R-Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) produced his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He also added two blocks.

Senior Gavin Liggett (Limon, Colo.) was also in double figures with 10 points with the guidance of two 3-pointers.

The ThunderWolves played a solid first half and were rewarded with a 39-35 lead. The Pack shot 45.5 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes, while the Grizzlies hit on 46.9 percent.

The two teams traded buckets until ASU went on a little run and were leading by nine at 15-6 five minutes into the contest. An 11-2 response by the Pack, as four different players scored and three of them hit a 3-pointer, tied the contest at 17-17. The ThunderWolves led most of the rest of the half and had a lead as large as five before settling with a four-point advantage on a layup with two seconds left by Dalen Jackson (R-Fr., G, Colorado Springs, Colo.).

The Pack came out focused during the first six minutes of the second half and a Liggett 3-pointer handed the ThunderWolves their largest lead of the game at 54-43. All five starters scored during the stretch.

Adams State responded with a 14-0 run during the next four minutes of game time to open a three-point lead at 57-54.

CSU-Pueblo took a timeout and dialed up a 3-pointer from Oldham to tie the game 57-57 midway through the frame. Unfortunately for the Pack, two ASU free throws gave the road team a 62-60 lead with 9:31 showing on the game clock and it wouldn't relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

The ThunderWolves scored just 14 points in those final nine minutes, but were within three at 69-66 following an Anderson dunk on a dish from Oldham with 5:55 to play. The Grizzlies scored the next six points and were leading by nine at 75-66 with four minutes left before claiming the 12-point victory.
