Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. (October 12, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team returned home after a two-week hiatus and played host to Western State Colorado University, battling the Mountaineers to a scoreless 0-0 tie after two overtime periods.
The ThunderWolves were led offensively by Cara Siegel (So., Pueblo, Colo.) who finished with a game-high eight shot attempts including five on goal in the match.
CSU-Pueblo outshot the visitors 26-14 overall and had eleven shots on goal compared to six by Western.
Through the first period both teams exchanged possession possession and smothering defense by both teams was key in keeping it a scoreless match.
At intermission Justine Martinez (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) had collected three shots and one on goal for the Pack.
CSU-Pueblo earned one corner compared to zero by the Mountaineers.
Playing on a brisk night at the pitch, the ThunderWolves kept the pressure and fired 13 shots in the second half.
The Pack had several good looks at the net and eleven shots were on goal in the game.
After regulation the ThunderWolves carried a 21-12 shot advantage and had gathered two corners.
In the first overtime the Pack got two shots off, one each by Callie Larson (Sr., Ogden, UT) and Justine Martinez (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.).
The second and final extra period, Mackenzie Bean (Sr., Bothell, Wash.) was aggressive and fired off two shots that sailed high of the net.
With less than three minutes left, Siegel hit her last shot that was saved on an acrobatic move by the Western State goalkeeper.
Pack goalkeeper Rylie Martin (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) made six saves and faced 14 shots to preserve the shutout.
CSU-Pueblo (7-3-2, 4-3-1 RMAC) remains home Sunday and plays Colorado Mesa at noon at Gonzales Stadium.
