PUEBLO, Colo. (March 25, 2016) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team dropped a pair of games Friday against Colorado School of Mines in a double dip played at Runyon Field in Pueblo.
The Pack fell 5-2 in game one and dropped a 6-5 decision in the nightcap to the Orediggers.
In the opener the ThunderWolves, the designated visiting team, managed two hits in the game and scored its only runs of the contest in the fourth inning as a result of three batters hit by the pitch.
Kennedy Smith (Jr., Fillmore, Calif.) earned a bases loaded walk, along with an RBI-groundout off the bat of Michaela Burpee (Fr., Union City, Calif.) was the Pack's only offense.
Pack hurler Hope Davalos (R-Fr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) tossed six innings allowing five runs on eight hits and struck out four hitters in the losing effort.
In game two Colorado Mines took a one-run lead in the bottom of the first that was quickly erased in the next half inning as the Pack scored on a passed ball by the defense.
In the third, CSU-Pueblo took its first lead of the day 2-1, capitalizing on one of seven Oredigger errors in the game.
CSM responded in the bottom half of the third with four runs on five hits, to regain the lead 5-2.
The ThunderWolves chipped away at the lead in the top half of the sixth, scoring three runs in tying the game at five apiece. The Pack scored two of the runs on two throwing errors the Oredigger pitcher.
Smith connected on a single through the right side, plating the equalizer for the Pack.
In the final inning for CSU-Pueblo, a lead off double from Burpee went unanswered as she was left stranded on base.
In the bottom of the inning for Mines, a leadoff triple set the stage for an RBI-sac flyout by Sonoma Toot to give the Orediggers the 6-5 victory.
CSU-Pueblo (6-26, 5-17 RMAC) continues conference play when they travel to take on Western New Mexico University in a four game series in Silver City, New Mexico beginning next Saturday.
