Golden, Kahler, Lear honored in RMAC yearly awards

RMAC RELEASE

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 1, 2016) – Three members of the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team were honored Tuesday when the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its annual yearly awards and all-conference teams.

Senior guard Chris Golden (Milwaukee, Wis.) was named All-RMAC First Team after leading the conference in 3-pointers made per game. Junior center Nelson Kahler (Noosa Heads, Australia) was honored as All-RMAC Second Team after guiding the league in blocks. Senior forward Odessa Lear (Parkhill, Colo.) garnered All-RMAC Honorable Mention recognition after leading the Pack in rebounds and double-doubles. 

Under fifth-year head coach Ralph Turner, 14 members of the ThunderWolves have earned All-RMAC honors, while two have gathered first-team recognition (Bronson Moton - 2014-15). 

GOLDEN BIO

Knocked down 3.4 3-pointers per game this season to rank 11th nationally and lead the RMAC … Totaled 89 buckets from beyond the arc to sit 18th in NCAA Division II … With 16.8 points per game he sits eighth in the RMAC, while his 43.2 percent from downtown is good for 10th in the league … An efficient 85.6 percent from the free-throw line, he is fifth in the conference … Led the team in scoring in 12 games and only five times didn't reach 10 points … Dropped 20-plus points eight times, which included three games with 30 or more points … Recorded 39 points at Colorado Christian … Started 26 games, averaged 27.3 minutes per game and added 76 rebounds, 41 assists and 22 steals.

KAHLER BIO

Four-time RMAC Defensive Player of the Week (Dec. 21, Jan. 5, Feb. 8, Feb. 29) … Compiled 64 blocks to lead the RMAC (25 more than second place) and ranks No. 18 nationally in the category (2.3 bpg is 19th)… Averaged 11.9 points per game on a 56.5 shooting percentage from the field that ranks sixth in the RMAC … Brought down 6.4 rebounds per game to sit tied for ninth in the conference … Recorded 10 or more points on 16 occasions, which included 30 points in a win against UCCS … Added 10 rebounds against the Mountain Lions, which was one of his five games with 10 or more rebounds ... Posted three or more rejections in 14 games this season, which included a seven block effort against Chadron State (Jan. 3) ... The seven blocks ranks as the most by a player in the RMAC this season, the second most in a single game in program histroy and tied for 19th nationally in 2015-16 ... Kahler played and started all 28 games and averaged 23.1 minutes per game.

LEAR BIO

Led the team in rebounds with 7.1, which ranks sixth in the RMAC … Totaled 10.9 points per game to sit fourth on the team … Sits second on the team and tied for 12th with 1.2 steals per game … Shot 48.8 percent from the field and added 37 assists with six blocks … Compiled a team-best seven double-doubles, which included a 22-point, 11-rebound effort in the regular season finale versus Western State (Feb. 26) ... Totaled 15 games with 10-plus points and eight games with 10 or more rebounds ... Started 27 games and averaged 24.7 minutes per game.

Making their fourth-straight postseason appearance, the eighth-seeded ThunderWolves (16-12, 12-10 RMAC) head to top-seeded and No. 8 Fort Lewis College (24-3, 19-3 RMAC) tonight for round one of the RMAC Shootout. The contest is set for a 7 p.m. start.
