Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. (February 6, 2016)– A pair of 20-point performances guided the Colorado State University-Pueblo women's basketball team to a 74-64 win over the Metro State University of Denver Roadrunners. The ThunderWolves now own their best record in program history through 23 games 19-4
With this win, the Pack clinched a spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout the first week of March. They lead the RMAC with their 14-3 conference record. The Roadrunners fell to 10-13 (8-9 RMAC).
The Pack made 21-of-24 (87.5 percent) from the free-throw line. CSU-Pueblo also knocked down 9-of-25 from beyond the arc .
Ashley Piper (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa) scored a season-high 21 points. Piper made 6-of-11 from the field including 5-of-8 from downtown and all four of her free throw attempts. The senior also grabbed eight rebounds in the win.
Molly Rohrer (Fr. Greenwood Village, Colo.) delivered 20 points for the Pack. Rohrer drained 8-of-13 from the field. She also had two blocks and swished her only 3-point attempt.
Dee Arrieta (Sr., Pueblo, West, Colo.) played 38 minutes for the Pack. The guard scored seven points, secured eight rebounds, and dished out four assists.
Defense told the story in the first half. Both defenses clamped down and held their opponents under 30 percent from the field. The Pack built a five-point lead twice in the first half, but went in to intermission with a 32-30 lead.
CSU-Pueblo sank 15-of-16 from the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes. Seven of the those makes came from
Tuileisu Anderson (So., Vancouver, Wash.) who scored nine points in the first half. She finished with 13 points and two steals.
Piper hit three 3-pointers in the first half, all of which came in the second quarter. She went 3-of-4 from the field to post 11 points before intermission.
Rohrer took over in the second half. The freshman scored seven points in third quarter as the Pack built their lead to 51-44 after three. CSU-Pueblo shot 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the field in the third compared to just 30.8 percent for the Roadrunners.
Rohrer's roll continued in the fourth. The Cherry Creek High School product netted the Pack's first seven points of the fourth to pad the CSU-Pueblo lead to 12, 58-46.
MSU Denver would trim the lead to six following an 8-2 run. However they would not get any closer as the Pack closed out the Roadrunners 74-64.
CSU-Pueblo shot 53.6 percent in the second half. The ThunderWolves splashed 6-of-12 from 3-point range in the final 20 minutes.
The Pack will hit the road to play Adams State University Friday Feb. 12. CSU-Pueblo returns to Massari Arena Friday, Feb. 20 to play Colorado Christian University at 5:30 p.m.
