ST. GEORGE, UTAH (February 6, 2016) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team fell to 0-3 on the young season after suffering a 10-4 loss against Fort Lewis Saturday at the Dixie State Tournament.
Moriah Turney (Jr., Brighton, Colo.) was the spark for the ThunderWolves as she along with first baseman Madison Wolfe (Sr., Oxnard, Calif.) went 2-for-3 at the plate and each collecting a double.
Turney has gone 4-for-6 (.667) in three games. Wolfe made her first start of the season and had a solid outing offensively.
CSU-Pueblo struck first in the opening frame with the double by Wolfe for the early lead.
Fort Lewis quickly responded in the next half inning stealing a 2-1 lead on three hits.
In the top of the third and one out, Turney stepped to the plate and smacked a double to right field and score following an illegal pitch.
The ThunderWolves loaded the bases later in the inning, chasing FLC's starting pitcher. Alyssa Ubrun (So., Olympia, Wash.), stepped to the plate and earned a walk to plate the third of the game.
The Skyhawks went on a 9-1 scoring run over the final four innings to secure the win.
Victoria Talavera (Fr., Burbank, Calif.) picked up her first career double and RBI hitting a blast to the center field.
Hope Davalos (R-Fr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) made her second appearance in the circle falling to 0-2.
CSU-Pueblo will return to action Sunday with a rematch set with Humboldt State followed by the tourney finale matchup against No. 2 Dixie State. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
