Box Score Durango, Colo. (February 13, 2016)– Freshman Molly Rohrer (Greenwood Village, Colo.) scored 25 points to power Colorado State University-Pueblo women's basketball to a 64-54 win over Fort Lewis College. With the win, the ThunderWolves moved to 21-4 (16-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) and own the best winning percentage in program history.
Rohrer's 25-point outing set a new career high for the freshman. She went 11-for-21 from the field, including a 7-of-10 start in the first half. Rohrer hit 1-of-2 from downtown.
The RMAC's leading shot blocker, Rohrer rejected three Skyhawks shots to average four swats per game this weekend. She pulled down seven rebounds and grabbed a steal in a dominating performance.
Ashley Piper (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa) came up clutch with eight points in the fourth quarter. She finished with 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 effort from the line. Piper also grabbed three steals for the Pack.
Tuileisu Anderson (So., Vancouver, Wash) tallied 14 points in the win. Anderson knocked down 5-of-11 from the field, including a pair of threes. She went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line and has now made 25 of her last 27 (92.6%) from the stripe.
Lauren Heyn (Fr., Loomis, Calif.) hauled in nine rebounds for the Pack. She added nine points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field.
Fort Lewis took the lead out of the gate with a 3-pointer. After a four-point Pack run, the Skyhawks reclaimed the lead 5-4 with 7:41 left in the first. This would be the Skyhawks last lead of the game. An 8-2 Pack run over the next minute put the Pack in front 12-7.
After a high scoring first quarter, the Pack would hold a 20-17 lead. Rohrer collected nine points in the first half, while Anderson scored eight in the first. The two women combined for 17 of the Pack's 20 first quarter points.
In the second quarter, the Pack defense shut down the Skyhawks, holding Fort Lewis to just 23.5 % (4-of-17) from the field in the second. Rohrer scored eight points in the second on 3-of-4 shooting.
The Pack carried a 34-28 lead into the break. Half of the Pack's 34 first half points came courtesy of Rohrer.
A 6-1 Pack run to begin the second half put the ThunderWolves up 40-29. Fort Lewis trimmed the Pack's lead to 46-40 by the end of the third.
Fort Lewis closed within one point with just 3:44 left to play. That's when Piper took over. The senior sank two 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to give the Pack a 56-49 lead. Piper also drained the Pack's final two free throws to clinch the 64-54 win for the ThunderWolves.
CSU-Pueblo has now won its last six games. The Skyhawks fell to 14-10 (10-9 RMAC).
The ThunderWolves returns to Massari Arena Friday, Feb. 20 to begin a three-game homestand to conclude the regular season. CSU-Pueblo's opponent will be Colorado Christian University with tip off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Pack continues their homestand with a game against Colorado School of Mines Saturday at 5 p.m.
