DURANGO, Colo. (February 13, 2016) – No. 10 Fort Lewis College lived up to its national ranking and perfect 13-0 home record Saturday, as the Skyhawks downed the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team, 99-85 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest.
Fort Lewis (21-3, 16-3 RMAC) won just about every statistical category, as they shot 49.2 percent from the field, hit on 15 3-pointers, shot 51.7 percent from long range and posted an efficient 92.3 percetnage from the free-throw line. The ThunderWolves (14-11, 10-9 RMAC) hit on 42.2 percent of its shots from the field, knocked down 14 3-pointers (14-of-32, 43.7%) and went 17-for-20 (85%) from the line.
Both senior Chris Golden (G, Milwaukee, Wis.) and sophomore Will Newman (G, Lawndale, Calif.) scored a team-high 18 points. Golden hit four 3-pointers and added four rebounds, while Newman was 6-for-10 (60%) from the field and contributed six rebounds and three assists.
Golden knocked down his second 3-pointer five minutes into the game to move the Pack ahead 14-13, but the Skyhawks would post a 10-0 run and the ThunderWolves trailed 23-14.
The Pack responded with a 12-7 run to cut the deficit to four at 30-26 with eight minutes left. Again the momentum shifted back the home team and with six minutes remaining in the first half, CSU-Pueblo trailed by 14 at 40-26.
The deficit was 18 at the break with the scoreboard reading 56-38. CSU-Pueblo won the first 10 minutes of the second half, but still trailed by 15 at 75-60. The Pack would be able to get within 11 on multiple occasions, but couldn't break the double digit deficit in the 14-point loss.
The Pack return home Feb. 19-20 to welcome Colorado Christian University and Colorado School of Mines. Both games are slated for a 7:30 p.m. start with Saturday's contest set to air live on Comcast CET (105/900 HD).
