ThunderWolves surrender late goal in 2-1 loss against UCCS

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 27, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker Sunday, falling 2-1 versus No. 20 University of Colorado Colorado Springs at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.

The Pack quickly set the tempo at a high level, gaining position in Mountain Lions territory, firing off five shots and earning three corner kicks in the first fifteen minutes of the game.

Sandra Grimaldo (Jr., F, Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) help set the pace, shooting two of a team high four shots in the onset.

The Mountain Lions scored the game's first goal in the 27th minute on a shot from Bailee Jameson in to the right side of the net.

The score remained unchanged heading to halftime with the Pack holding a 13-4 shots lead and 5-0 corner kick advantage.  

CSU-Pueblo's back defensive line had another strong outing, holding UCCS to ten shots for the game.

The tough play of the ThunderWolves was rewarded in the 75th minute, while in the midst of a flurry of shots Grimaldo hit a one-timer into the right side of the net, scoring her first goal of the season and as a member of the Pack.

Pack Goalkeeper Alison Darr (Jr., Placerville, Calif.) made four saves at the net.

With less than a minute of regulation, UCCS pushed the ball across midfield and off several blocked shots the Mountain Lions Jameson found the ball at her feet, striking the ball off a Pack defender in to the right side of the night with just 17 seconds showing on the clock.  

The Pack finished the game leading in shots 18-10, including 7-0 corner kicks.

CSU-Pueblo (4-3-0, 2-2-0 RMAC) continues Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play Friday hitting the road for the first time this season at Adams State University.
