PUEBLO, Colo. (September 20, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team earned its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win of the year Sunday with a 2-0 victory against Adams State University at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.
The ThunderWolves made their presence known early with the games' first goal scored by Amanda Jorgensen (Sr., F, Wailuku, Hawai'i) in the second minute of the contest for an early 1-0 lead.
CSU-Pueblo played a strong first half defensively, allowing the Grizzlies just one shot in the period. The back line of the Pack including Megan Garcia (R-So., Pueblo, Colo.) and Jessica Westhoff (So., Centennial, Colo.) played a major role in shutting down Adams State.
The Pack added to the lead just seconds before halftime on a one-timer shot by Tanna Duling (So., Mid., Pueblo, Colo.) who placed the ball inside the far right corner of the net, after receiving a perfectly passed ball from Taylor Redding (So., D, Westminster, Colo.) for a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
Opening the second period, CSU-Pueblo maintained its composure, withstanding an increase in energy by the Grizzlies as they quickly managed two shots over a span of five minutes before gaining possession, slowing the pace.
ThunderWolves goalkeeper Alison Darr (Jr., Placerville, Calif.) made four saves in the game, all of which came in the second half.
The Pack matched the physical play of Adams State, earning possession in the final minutes to end any further scoring threat.
The teams ended the game tied with eight shots apiece and Adams State holding a 4-2 corner kick advantage.
CSU-Pueblo (3-2-0) remains at home Friday for an RMAC matchup versus Western State Colorado University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.
