PUEBLO, Colo. (April 3, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo split a doubleheader Friday against Colorado School of Mines. The ThunderWolves fell 3-1 in the first game before rebounding with a 13-5 victory in six innings for game two.
In game one, Colorado Mines scored the games' first run in the top half of the third inning, the Orediggers connected on two hits in the inning, taking an early 1-0 lead.
Colorado Mines tallied two runs in the top of the fifth inning on three hits.
The Pack was held scoreless through five innings, mustering one single over that span.
Sidney Bailey (Sr., OF, Pueblo, Colo.) singled leading off the sixth inning, scoring on a defensive error in the next at bat, avoiding the shutout.
Starting in the circle for the ThunderWolves, Kelli Henry (Sr., Monument, Colo.) threw seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. Henry finished with a season-high nine strikeouts.
In game two, the Pack erupted for six runs through the first two innings en route to a 13-5 run-rule victory.
The ThunderWolves plated two in their first at bat on a passed ball and RBI single, taking a 2-1 lead.
In the second inning, the Pack plated four runs.
Sidney Bailey (Sr., OF, Pueblo, Colo.) hit a 2-run single, along with a two-run blast from Chrystal Reese (Jr., Pilot Point, Tex.), building a 6-2 lead.
The Pack tallied three more runs in the third on three hits and two Oredigger errors to lead 9-2 through three innings.
Three runs crossed for Colorado Mines over the next two innings, cutting into the Pack lead.
In the fifth inning, three more runs on three CSU-Pueblo hits in the fifth inning added to the score 12-5.
The Pack capitalized on a fourth Oredigger error while in the sixth, scoring the final run in the contest and splitting the doubleheader.
Yvanna Bejarano (Sr., P, Thatcher, Ariz.) got the starting nod in the circle, throwing six innings, surrendering five runs on eight hits while striking out six.
Bejarano improves to 3-5 on the season.
The teams will conclude play with another doubleheader Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. at Rawlings Softball Complex.
