CSU-Pueblo split Sunday doubleheader

DENVER, Colo. (April 12, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team played to another split of a doubleheader Sunday. The Pack defeated Adams State 5-4 in the opening game, before dropping the weekend finale 7-2 against pod-host Regis University.

Pack hurler Kelli Henry (Sr., Monument, Colo.) picked up her second win of the weekend, throwing another complete game, her twelfth complete game this season.

Henry allowed four runs, two earned, on five ASU hits. She finished the contest with two strikeouts.

 The ThunderWolves opened the game giving up two runs in the first at bat. It was quickly matched in the home half of the inning with the Pack scoring three runs on three hits and three defensive errors for a 3-2 lead after one complete inning.

CSU-Pueblo tallied another run in the second inning on a two out double by Chrystal Reese (Jr., OF, Pilot Point, Tex.) scoring Alexa Snyder (Sr., 2B, Pueblo, Colo.) who hit a stand up triple earlier in the inning.

Adams scored a run in the next at bat, cutting into the lead.

 The ThunderWolves plated another run in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI-double by Kennedy Smith (So., C, Fillmore, Calif.), scoring Lexie Martindale (So., Pueblo, Colo.) from first base.

The Grizzlies added one run in the sixth but was not enough as the Pack held on for the 5-4 victory.

Henry improves to 10-5 on the season in the circle.

In game two, the Pack was held to one hit through five innings, surrendering a six runs to Regis University through the first three innings.

CSU-Pueblo got on the board in the sixth inning on a triple by Sidney Bailey (Sr., OF, Pueblo, Colo.), scoring on a groundout in the next at bat.

The ThunderWolves tallied another run in the seventh inning, loading the bases before a groundout ended the game with the Pack on the losing end, 7-2.

Yvanna Bejarano (Sr., P, Thatcher, Ariz.) started in the circle for the Pack, going 4.1 innings and allowing six runs, four earned, on six hits.

Martindale came on to pitch in relief for CSU-Pueblo with one out in the fifth inning. She allowed three hits and one run in her time in the circle.

CSU-Pueblo (19-21, 15-13 RMAC) return home April 18-19 when they welcome Black Hills State to Rawlings Softball Complex for a four game series set to begin Saturday at noon.
