PUEBLO, Colo. (March 9, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team split its two games Monday, defeating Colorado Mesa University 3-1 in game one before falling to Regis University 8-5 in game two, concluding a two-day Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod series at Rawlings Softball Complex.
Madison Wolfe (Jr., P, Oxnard, Calif.) threw seven innings for the Pack. She held the Mavericks to just four hits and recorded two strikeouts in her seventh complete game of the season, improving to 4-3 on the season.
The Pack got on the board in the first inning on a leadoff walk to Alexa Snyder (Sr., 2B, Pueblo, Colo.) who later stole second base, setting up an RBI-single by Chrystal Reese (Jr., INF, Pilot Point, Tex.) giving the Pack an early 1-0 lead.
Colorado Mesa scored its run in the second inning when the first three hitters reached base, scoring one run on a sacrifice fly out. Wolfe retired the next two hitters, one on a squeeze bunt at the plate, putting out the runner on the force out followed with a fly out to get out of the inning.
The ThunderWolves regained the lead in the home half of the inning, capitalizing on two Mavericks miscues to take a 2-1 lead.
The final run of the game came in the fourth inning on an RBI-single by Reese, scoring Alyssa Ubrun (Fr., 3B, Olympia, Wash.) who hit a one out double in her at bat.
Reese ended the game going 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the 3-2 victory.
In the series finale against Regis, the Rangers scored three runs in the first at bat before the Pack responded with two runs in the home half of the first inning. The runs coming from a two run double by Moriah Turney (So., SS, Brighton, Colo.), cutting the lead 3-2 at the end of one inning.
Two more runs in the top of the second extended the Ranger lead to 5-2.
Kennedy Smith (So., C, Fillmore, Calif.) belted her second homerun of the season in the third inning, a three-run shot, knotting at five apiece.
Regis added a single run in the fourth and held the 6-5 lead through six innings before adding two insurance runs in the seventh inning to seal an 8-5 victory.
The Pack was held to two hits in the final four innings.
Yvanna Bejarano (Sr., P, Thatcher, Ariz.) was tabbed for eight runs, four earned, allowing nine hits in the complete game. She finished with three strikeouts.
Regis defeated Colorado Mesa 9-2 in game two, finishing undefeated 4-0 in the pod series.
CSU-Pueblo (9-11, 5-3 RMAC) will remain at home and welcome University Colorado-Colorado Springs to Pueblo for a four game set beginning Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Rawlings Softball Complex.
