PUEBLO, Colo. (March 8, 2015) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team dropped two games both in extra innings, falling 5-4 in eight innings against Regis University in the first game followed with a 9-6 loss in 9-innings versus Colorado Mesa University Sunday at Rawlings Softball Complex.
The Pack jumped to a 2-1 lead in the third inning on a two-run single by Dora Hernandez (Jr., OF, Benton City, Wash.) scoring Sidney Bailey (Sr., OF, Pueblo, Colo.) and Jasmine Vogel (Sr., OF, Oceanside, Calif.).
The score remained the same through six innings.
Pack hurler Madison Wolfe (Jr., P, Oxnard, Calif.) threw effective in her outing, allowing five runs on twelve hits and striking out five Rangers hitters.
Regis scored the tying run in the top of the seventh inning on two hits in the inning.
The Rangers tallied three runs in their half of the extra inning, jumping to a 5-2 lead at that point.
CSU-Pueblo made things interesting in the bottom of the eighth scoring two runs in the inning, the first run came by way of an RBI-single from Kennedy Smith (So., C, Fillmore, Calif.).
Vogel hit a sacrifice flyout, scoring the second run of the inning but that is all the Pack would get, falling 5-4.
In game two against Colorado Mesa, the Mavericks jumped to an early 4-0 lead on two two-run homeruns hit.
In their first at bat the Pack loaded the bases, scoring one run when Moriah Turney (So., SS, Brighton, Colo.) reached on a fielder's choice, allowing the run to cross the plate.
Trailing 5-1 to begin the third inning, the ThunderWolves erupted to score four runs on five hits in the frame.
Three singles to begin the inning for CSU-Pueblo including an RBI single by Wolfe, cut into the lead. Later in the inning Smith stepped to the plate with the bases loaded, crushing a double to left centerfield, clearing the bases and knotting the game at 5-5.
Yvanna Bejarano (Sr., P, Thatcher, Ariz.) came on to pitch in relief to begin the fourth inning, throwing six innings, allowing eight hits and four runs.
The score remained tied through seven innings, taking the Pack to the second extra inning game of the day.
The Mavericks pulled away in the ninth inning, scoring three runs on three hits in the inning.
CSU-Pueblo was unable to score in the final at bat, falling 9-6 in 9-innings.
In the second game of the day, Regis defeated Colorado Mesa 3-2.
CSU-Pueblo (8-10, 4-2 RMAC) will conclude the pod series Monday first playing Colorado Mesa and wrapping the weekend up against Regis in game three. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Rawlings Softball Complex.
