Moton's bucket with 1.8 ticks left lifts Pack to sixth straight, 79-77 victory at ASU

ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 14, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team's win streak improved to six games Saturday when the ThunderWolves defeated Adams State University 79-77, thanks to a runner with 1.8 ticks left by junior Bronson Moton (F, Aurora, Colo.).

After a layup from ASU's Marcus Hall to tie the game, 77-77 with 19 seconds left, Moton took the ensuing inbounds pass and from there did it on his own. With seven seconds left he would make his move, he drove right and hit a running fade-away off one foot to give the ThunderWolves a 79-77 lead with less than two seconds left to seal the victory for CSU-Pueblo.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road win improved the ThunderWolves win streak to six, which marks the best run since the 1999-00 team started the season 7-0. CSU-Pueblo is 17-7 overall and 13-5 in league play. The 17 wins is the best since the 2009-10 team went 17-11, while the league mark is good for sole possession of fourth place with four games remaining in the regular season.

Moton led the team with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, his fourth double-double of the season and second in three games. For the second night in a row the Pack had four players score in double-figures. Senior Tyrone Marshall (C, Denver, Colo.) pitched in 14 points, freshman Josh Smith (G, Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished with 13 points and junior Odessa Lear (G, Parkhill, Colo.) collected 10.

The ThunderWolves shot 51 percent from the field and went 10-for-26 (38.5%) from long range.

CSU-Pueblo trailed going into the break 36-34, but opened the second half scratching and clawing, and mid-way through the period went on a 22-6 run to lead 70-55 with 5:58 left.

The Grizzlies would fight their way back and go on a run of their own outscoring the Pack 22-7 to tie it up with 19 seconds left. ThunderWolves would not flinch as Moton recorded the first field goal for the Pack in almost six minutes, as he came to the rescue to hit the game-winning shot to halt Adams State's potential Cinderella comeback. ASU's Juwan Buchanan had a chance with a heave from three-quarters court, but would not prevail.

The Pack will look to extend the streak Feb. 20-21 in their final homestand of the season when Black Hills State University and Chadron State University come to Massari Arena. Both games tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
